About this artwork
Two forms 2 started to toy in my mind right after art school, it was my first step into creating something that is authentic, original, and mine. I stepped outside the boundaries of academic practices, and begun exploring expressive side. I found this special pressed leaf paper in Soho in NYC, during my last year living in NY, and invested into my the first serious series that later became my guiding mark through development. 20 years after in 2020…
I still use at times similar organic, biomorphic forms, sometimes hidden and sometimes very obvious in my new series or new paintings.

Ana Kalacanovic came to the United States to break free from the civil war in former Yugoslavia, and chose to pursue art classes. Although she had no experience with art, she performed well in her fine arts classes and decided to pursue it as a career. Her work is inspired by the concept of a Creature, that she describes as harmful and curious. Her energetic, large-scale pieces are borne of an attempt to capture the essence of this Creature on canvas.
