Afterimage
This work inhabits a space between appearance and dissolution. Rather than presenting a defined portrait, it reveals the moment in which a face attempts to emerge from layers of paint.
A dark vertical structure crosses the composition like a gravitational axis, acting as a column of memory where the image forms and erodes at the same time.
Around it, pale blues, broken whites, and diluted earth tones create an atmospheric field where… identity becomes unstable. Within this field, fragments of a human presence appear — a mouth, the suggestion of a profile — never fully resolving into a complete figure.
The painting is not about portraiture itself, but about the memory of portraiture: the lingering trace of an image that remains after it begins to disappear.
