This drawing depicts a crumpled dollar bill in its natural, worn state. I started by closely examining the folds, creases, and textures, photographing the bill to capture its details accurately.
I began with a light graphite underdrawing to map the shape and major folds. Using coloured pencils, I built up layers gradually, focusing on the subtle variations in green ink and the paper’s texture. Highlights along the folds were added last to create… depth and realism. Soft core pencils were used for the larger areas of colour and for blending, and hard core pencils were used for sharp detail lines.
The final piece emphasises the material qualities of the bill; its worn edges, creases, and frayed fibres. These highlight the physical characteristics often overlooked in everyday objects.
