About this artwork
I am not concerned about appearance but the essence
that person hides in himself.
This understanding forms the image of "a phantom"
in my works, which occupies a key place on my canvases.
It is worth mentioning that people in different eras
resorted to the concept of "a phantom", describing it
in chronicles, sacred texts and drawings. In ancient times,
the phantom meant for invisible part of a soul.
And that`s exactly what I stand for in my paintings.…
My phantoms have black faces, personifying impersonality
and emptiness.
This emptiness is, however, getting filled by
people`s innermost images when they look at my works.
I don`t draw a parallel between a person and their soul,
I emphasize thier connection.
In my understanding, a phantom isn`t a dead soul,
and doesn`t have anything negative.
On the contrary, it is a part and parcel of each person,
their mirror reflection, which show true feelings,
hidden intentions and desires.
