About this artwork
This painting shows a historical event: the storm surge in the North Sea near Pellworm, which in the Middle Ages permanently flooded the old trading town of Rungholt. In intuitive and expressive brushstrokes, it conveys the dynamic power of the sea. A picture with current relevance, too, because archaeologists have just made good progress with excavations during low tide and have uncovered the floor plan structures of the medieval church there.
My art combines nature and culture - it raises awareness of what surrounds us and inspires us to take responsibility - for landscapes, history and the heritage of humanity. I have dedicated myself to free painting, creating colorful images between abstraction and object.
I also work with printmaking, such as etchings (aquatint) and monotypes. When it comes to copperplate prints, I like to focus on antique or historical motifs and themes, which I project into the present. In painting, I prefer an abstract style, including in landscape and nature pictures. Some motifs are only reproduced in coded form, so the viewer has the opportunity to interpret them for themselves. Many of my pictures have already been shown in exhibitions, some in juried art exhibitions for which art catalogues have been published.
