Ginkgo from the Kamon Vibes Series – Artful Symbols of Happiness
Handsiebdruck auf Velin 80 x 80 cm mit Büttenrand
Ginkgos are ‚living fossils‘ that thrived 270 million years ago, before the age of dinosaurs. They found a safe haven in Eastern Asia, where they were cultivated as sacred trees representing eternal life. Ginkgos can live to be 1000-2500 years old and grow 160 feet tall. In fall their green leaves transition to saffron yellow, which… release in a sequence that creates a mystical golden-rainfall.
Ginkgo trees also symbolize the balance of yin and yang. Yin & Yang are harmonic and opposing forces while yin is seen as the feminine essence and yang as the masculine essence of the sun.
Andrea Mönch is a Munich-based artist who trained at the Nuremberg Academy of Fine Arts and the Karlsruhe University of Art and Design. She works with media such as prints, hand-sewn fashion objects, canvas works, and ceramics. She combines Japanese aesthetics with the simplicity of Shaker philosophy; her techniques range from screen printing and papermaking to sewing and drawing, always driven by experimental curiosity and precision. Her works radiate a quiet intensity, sensitive materiality, and a deep, calm presence.
The timeless Kamon emblems are reimagined through hand-printed screen art. Blending tradition with contemporary design, each piece captures symbols of happiness and good fortune, crafted to inspire and uplift your everyday surroundings.
