Koi from the Kamon Vibes Series – Artful Symbols of Happiness
Handsiebdruck auf Velin 80 x 80 cm mit Büttenrand
The legend of the golden dragon. A group of golden koi swam upstream in China‘s Yellow River. At the end of the river facing a waterfall, most of the group allowed themselves to be carried back downstream. But a few remained, determined to conquer the waterfall. In the end, one of them, one of the smallest koi’s, succeeded. For its perseverance,… the gods rewarded it by transforming it into a golden dragon.
Andrea Mönch is a Munich-based artist who trained at the Nuremberg Academy of Fine Arts and the Karlsruhe University of Art and Design. She works with media such as prints, hand-sewn fashion objects, canvas works, and ceramics. She combines Japanese aesthetics with the simplicity of Shaker philosophy; her techniques range from screen printing and papermaking to sewing and drawing, always driven by experimental curiosity and precision. Her works radiate a quiet intensity, sensitive materiality, and a deep, calm presence.
The timeless Kamon emblems are reimagined through hand-printed screen art. Blending tradition with contemporary design, each piece captures symbols of happiness and good fortune, crafted to inspire and uplift your everyday surroundings.
