About this artwork
Andreas Dullnig paints the actor Helmut Berger. The result is a series of 24 works and the same person is always portrayed. The painter is fully involved in the artistic process, and yet no two pictures are the same. Not infrequently he also reworks old oil paintings and includes fragments from previous subjects in the new work. The special brushwork creates a dynamic that reinforces the expressive expression of the face. The apparently finished…
work is often modeled with a myriad of fine lines to the degree of resolution.

« I am briefly satisfied when I manage to detach the image from my original intention and surprise myself. »
Andreas Dullnig is an Austrian artist whose works have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions nationally. His compositions center around the portrayal of people, either through portraits or groups of people who are engaged in a certain action. In order to detach the image from its realistic idea, Dullnig begins a piece in such a fashion. One the picture is indeed realistic, the process of abstraction begins through the interaction of technology and chance.
