About this artwork
Here, one encounters not a finished composition, but a state that has changed from within itself. Beneath the smooth, light-refracting layer of epoxy resin, an earlier stage of the image is preserved, not visible in the classical sense, but palpable in its continuing presence. New structures intervene above it, overlapping, interrupting, and merging with what already existed.
This working method does not follow a linear development, but rather… a principle of interaction: each new trace reacts to a previous one, each intervention alters the overall structure. The cool blue and turquoise fields act like permeable membranes, mediating between surface and depth. The work thus appears as a visual memory – a place where the past does not disappear, but continues to have an effect in a transformed form.
« Art that fascinates me is often like a symbiosis of philosophical magic and good craft. »
Andreas Garbe is an artist based in Germany whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Switzerland. Working abstractly with figurative and representational influences, his diverse compositions are both atmospheric and philosophical. In addition, Garbe explores themes relating to social issues, literature, meditation, and sensory perception. His landscapes, figurative pieces and abstractions are created using acrylics, oils, and resin on canvas.
