The story of David and Goliath is one of the best-known biblical stories in the Old Testament, more precisely from the first book of Samuel. It is about the victory of a young shepherd over a seemingly overwhelming opponent and is therefore often used… as a metaphor for overcoming great challenges. The story takes place at the time of the battles between the Israelites and the Philistines, a warlike people who lived in the region of today's Palestinian coastal plain. The two armies face each other in the Valley of Elah, but to avoid a bloody battle, the giant Goliath proposes to decide the conflict in a duel. The winner of this duel should secure supremacy over the inferior people.
