About this artwork
In #Messiah, the most iconic figure of Western spirituality is catapulted into the heart of the digital age. A modern Christ, tattooed and wearing sneakers, is crucified not on raw wood but on a neon cross, where instead of the classic INRI the writing shines: GO VIRAL.
Around him there are no apostles, nor faithful in prayer, but people with smartphones, intent on photographing, filming, perhaps posting. The pain, the sacrifice, the redemption… – all reduced to content to share.
Sacred wounds are replaced or accompanied by contemporary symbols: broken hearts, stars, flames. A body that becomes a social icon.
The work is a fierce reflection on the hunger for visibility, the spectacularization of pain and the modern cult of appearance.
Who really is the new Messiah? The one who saves or the one who sets trends?
A media crucifixion, a silent cry.
