About this artwork
Phoenix was inspired by Mark's story. He was a successful chef but his life started to spiral out of control. He started to feel he was an “invincible chef” able to successfully marry together more and more unexpected flavours, and build incredible sculptures out of chocolate.
Andy created two paintings based on Mark’s experience; Alchemy and Phoenix.
Phoenix shows Mark’s re-birth, the mythical bird rising from the embers, or in this chocolate,… as a metaphor for his change of direction.

Andy Farr is a talented British artist whose works have featured in exhibitions and prizes throughout the UK. His work is a balancing act between the accidental and envisaged, executed in a visual style that incorporates layers of texture, narrative and chance. Thematically, Farr focuses on mental health issues, memory and growing up, and technically, he incorporates a variety of medium including oil, acrylic, graphite and collage.
