About this artwork
My approach in creating this series is to find the story , find the narrative. I know I will be exploring a theme of figures gathering with in aplace or experience but the details and of what that is a creative discovery as I proceed in my process of layering the washes and gestures in watercolor.
I lay out the figures into the blank picture, I then take the time to study the gestures created. Slowly the figurative gestures reveal to me the clothes… they are wearing, the mood they are feeling, and in some cases, the drink they are drinking. Then the process begins as I articulate the mood and the impression of a narrative.
In the end, however, I enjoy the journey of keeping that narrative a mystery and invite the viewer in to create their own story.

« Making art has always brought me joy and reprieve from life's uncertainties. I still find that joy and the solace of knowing my work can inspire and uplift others. »
Andy Sklar is an experienced painter and printmaker based in the United States whose works have been exhibited nationally. He cites the places and environments that inspired him as a child as still being with him today. While the subject's in Sklar's pieces may vary from dinosaurs to more figurative and fantasy-inspired places, the idea of creating a place and a story within the scene remains an important part of his artistic practice.
