About this artwork
Mermaid 2 is part of a series that Anette Vargas created in cooperation with Denise Melvin.
The two artist worked on the "twohandspaintingproject" from 2014 to 2017.
They recived an artist residence in Worpswede and the collaboration culminated in an art show in Schloss Reinbek, Hamburg.
All the paintings were sold except Mermaid1 and Mermaid2.
2021 Vargas and Melvin met in Rome and decided to work again on the somehow unfinished paintings. The… result was amazing.The paintings appear in fresh and radiant colours, with gold leaf and altered composition..An underwaterworld dream full of tranquility and beauty.

Anette Vargas is a German artist whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Denmark, Austria, Czechia, and Italy. Oscillating between the figurative and the abstract, her works blend historical and mythological figures, dreams, and reality to express the different levels of consciousness of the human mind. Vargas enjoys drawing parallels between different religions, mythologies, and philosophies, transcending time and space, "crystalizing the essential messages" through her art.
