About this artwork
Thundering hooves, desperate bellows: a deafening roar accompanies the migration of wildebeest herds crossing the Okavango River at the beginning of the rainy season. Using acrylic, Indian ink, sand, and pigments, I created a dynamic effect to generate powerful texture and depth. The abstract forms reflect the flow of emotions and nature, while the vibrant blues and earth tones bring a dynamic energy to the space. This painting brings movement and… intensity that will fill any room with its powerful presence.
Angela Sommer works with pastels, oil, ink, and acrylic. The expressive use of color and material is at the heart of her work.
She finds inspiration primarily in the natural surroundings of the High Fens – a landscape whose rugged beauty and tranquil expanse are palpable in her paintings. The resulting works not only capture visual impressions but also touch on an emotional level: they evoke memories and invite reflection.
A distinctive feature of her work is the relief-like surface created by spontaneous splashes of paint. These structures are reminiscent of aerial photographs or "Earth from above"—they open up new perspectives and place the landscape in an abstract, almost cartographic context.
Angela Sommer combines intuition with painterly depth. Her works are a dialogue between chance and control, between external landscapes and inner spaces of experience.
