About this artwork
On the French Riviera the poppy fields bloom next to the sea. It's pure joy to paint in a poppy field with the Mediterranean breeze blowing in your hair. It's colour therapy, everything turns red, especially if you are wearing a white dress. Red is the colour of vitality and love.
It's clear that Angie had a great time while her palette knife and brushes danced all over this canvas. Watch the videos. Let your eyes follow her bliss as they meditate… upon the movement of the brushstrokes in this semiabstract landscape. The Mediterranean vegetation is represented in the pink and white Oleander bushes, the Marine Pine trees, and the rose vineyards on the hills.
It's a large canvas that will brighten the room where it hangs. Angie's mastery of colour is evident. The contrast of greens, blues, and reds make the painting pop out. The canvas is Italian. The paints are high quality Rembrandt, Sennelier, and Le Franc. The technique is predominately layering. Follow Angie on Instagram.
Angie Brooksby is an internationally renowned American artist who has lived in Europe since 1988. A recipient of numerous prizes and scholarships, including those awarded by U.S. senators, she holds a BFA in Sculpture from the prestigious Maryland Institute College of Art, where she studied under John Shan. Her artistic education continued at S.A.C.I. and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy.
Though classically trained in figurative sculpture and painting, Brooksby has shifted her focus to abstract works inspired by the flora and architecture of the French Riviera. Her paintings aim to capture and radiate light, transforming the wall into an expanded, luminous space. To obtain the most light she uses mixes, classical painting techniques with spray paint, collage and gold leaf.
After 21 years in Tuscany, 15 years in Paris, she is based on the French Riviera.. Her atelier gallery, Nouvelle Galerie Massillon, is located in the historic center of Hyères.
