About this artwork
‘Forms 1’ tunes into the expressive, visual forms of the twentieth century’s most contentious architectural constructions: the concrete kind. Greyscale photographs of zig-zagging window bays and softly curved building facades intersect with abstract swathes of pigment in 1960s shades of teal and mustard yellow, for a beautiful homage to the Brutalist dream.

« My practice relies heavily on being loose and intuitive; working on several pieces at a time helps to prevent the work from becoming contrived. »
Angus Vasili is a British artist and printmaker who is interested in the artistic process of pairing abstract forms with modern and contemporary architectural structures. Silkscreen printing is a key component in Vasili’s works, with the artist enjoying the unintended and exciting ‘accidents’ that can emerge from this analogue process. In his additional layering of photography and hand-finished textures in acrylics and oil pastels, Vasili’s compositions become experimental and intricate, striking a delicate balance between abstract and concrete forms.
