About this artwork
This painting is my vivid interpretation of the classic "water lily" theme, which is strongly inspired by Impressionism, especially Claude Monet, but has modern, almost expressionistic features.
This painting is an homage to Monet's water lilies, painted with oils in the Impressionist style à la Monet. I've incorporated my own style and focused on bold colors. The paint application is very thick (impasto), meaning I applied the oil paint in a thick,… textured way. The oil painting is finished with a satin-finish transparent varnish and is ready to hang. This painting is also a tribute to nature, but the intense color palette gives it a very modern feel.
Monet's water lilies are among the most famous works of Impressionism and among the most expensive paintings in the world: the "Nymphéas" that the elderly Claude Monet created in his garden in Giverny.
« My paintings are full of brilliance, versatility, and energy. They are vibrant portraits that reflect a deep connection with the untamed beauty of nature. »
Anja Semling is a trained graphic designer and versatile painter. With meticulous attention to detail and expressive techniques, she blends realism, naturalism, and expressionism. Her passionate works primarily illuminate the vibrant and living. Semling's abstract works are a powerful field of experimentation where her profound expertise as a graphic designer meets pure emotional expression. Her paintings invite viewers to reflect on the meaning of colors and forms, thus exploring their own thoughts and feelings. Her paintings are full of versatility and energy. They are vivid portraits that reflect a deep connection with the untamed beauty of nature. Semling focuses on combining expressionism, in the form of fluid art backgrounds, with realistic subject painting, which she skillfully integrates into the overall composition of her mixed-media works. The contrast between chaos and order characterizes these pieces.
