About this artwork
A contrasted image of a monkey, caught in his thoughts.
Contemplation is the activity of our mind. Even when we are still, our minds are active, always in search if answers. This need for finding answers drives us to create our questions. The search for a light, which illuminates the dark spots in our minds, is constant and preexisting to the questions we invent. Indeed, the answers are part of the questions already, they are biased, they are in… fact like glasses that make us see the world always in a similar way. If we do not shake it up consciously, we will always continue the same circle of questions and answers...
You shake it up, not through contemplation, but action! Your mind will see that the world can be different, and it will adapt its questions as soon as the answers differ! To change your mind, you need to get out of it first.
« My paintings have a strong autobiographical component. I like to portray experiences and feelings with delicate brushstrokes and calm colors. »
Anja Spagl is an artist based in France who has exhibited her works nationally, as well as in Germany. Being a proud vegetarian and animal lover, she often portrays animals and explores the human-animal relation in her compositions. Occasionally, Spagl's pieces also contain subtle critiques towards today's society. She paints using acrylics and oils on canvas. Originally a way of escaping reality, art is now her full-time occupation.
