About this artwork
"In the Mirror of the Others" pictures two different representations of a cat, painted in many layers of acrylic.
One is realistic, the other one is made of paper- an origami.
The circular background, that is surrounded by a warm shade of brown, is made of silver. It gives the painting mirror effect, and makes it seem, like there is another dimension to it.
We are always confronted with who we are, with who we want to be. Others can be like a mirror… for us, on the quest of the essence of our being...
« My paintings have a strong autobiographical component. I like to portray experiences and feelings with delicate brushstrokes and calm colors. »
Anja Spagl is an artist based in France who has exhibited her works nationally, as well as in Germany. Being a proud vegetarian and animal lover, she often portrays animals and explores the human-animal relation in her compositions. Occasionally, Spagl's pieces also contain subtle critiques towards today's society. She paints using acrylics and oils on canvas. Originally a way of escaping reality, art is now her full-time occupation.
