About this artwork

Throughout her Repetitivescapes series, Ann has worked with interference colours to add depth and interest. In Repetitivescape 2, she chose a rusty red-orange to create a cluster of thin vertical lines that disrupt the horizontal movement of the more neutrally coloured background. They are a visual representation of an internal wave of sound, the energy of trembling heartbeats, a silent sort of chaos. There is movement throughout this piece. There… is not a moment of stillness, but frantic energies moving at different paces with different purposes, through and beyond the square canvas of this acrylic work. This series was painted during the Covid-19 pandemic, when our lives, and indeed the mental health of many people around the world, were thrown into disarray.

Ann Bubis, a painter and sculptor from the United Kingdom, has exhibited in Germany, Czechia, the United States and the U.K. As an intuitive artist, her abstract and realistic pieces are a response to global issues concerning the environment and ‘throw-away society’, as well as ancestral history, to name a few. Bubis works comprise varying styles and media, with her current focus on framed mosaics and sculptures which she calls ‘juxtapositions’.
