About this artwork
It was the rage. Every country wanted a piece of Africa to call their own—Portugal, Italy, France, Germany, The UK, The Netherlands...They didn't really get that the land was already taken, and even if they did, they came anyhow. In doing so they decimated the wildlife population and fundamentally altered a viable way of life that was centuries old for the people they enslaved. The painting takes an ironic look at these dynamics.
