Inspiration.
In Africa, machismo is still entrenched. "Real Men" must display power and aggression. This, and poverty, encourages outdated, life-threatening rituals.
"Modern masculinity, requires a balance between animus and anima—where both male and female are equally valued."
A "modern man" embraces his feminine side.
“In South Africa, even a sophisticated man may still opt for ritual circumcision. This month 51 young men have already lost… their lives to this outdated practice. This voluntary self-violence seeps out into gender-based violence. The focus on "strong" men, has resulted in suppression and domination of women.”

Ann Gadd, an award-winning South African painter, has exhibited nationally and in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Italy.
