About this artwork
It is a large, luminous, and highly textured painting, playing entirely on the chromatic contrast of the title, the blue and red of summer: red poppies vibrate with life against a sea of blue flowers, evoking a contrast of passion and serenity. It is a field in full bloom, seen up close, almost as if the viewer were leaning over the stems. The poppies stand out in the foreground, rendered with broad, thick brushstrokes that give volume and softness… to the petals; the red is saturated and almost fluorescent. Around and in the background is a carpet of stylized cornflowers, painted with quick touches of pale blue, sky blue, and lilac. They create the "blue" of the title and provide a chromatic counterpoint to the poppies. The red vibrates against the green of the foliage, while the blue of the small flowers creates a cool/warm harmony that makes the red "sing." This work aims to convey the sensation of a full, warm, and vibrant summer: the red brings energy, the diffused blue conveys calm and freshness.
Anna Carrarini, a painter passionate about drawing and painting, trained both self-taught and through courses with renowned masters, such as Francesco Vaglica, continuing her training in art studios. She primarily uses oil on canvas, pastels, and watercolors, and experiments with brushes, palette knives, and other tools, paying close attention to color. Her works, blending classical themes with dreamlike symbolism, evoke profound emotions, leading the viewer on a journey of personal exploration and inner harmony.
