About this artwork
I didn't like the first version of this painting at all. I'd experimented with color and ended up blurring everything: strong textures, muddy mixtures of blue and yellow, a very kitschy abstract sunset. A friend was visiting, saw the painting by chance, and wanted to buy it. But I refused. I couldn't identify with the image at all. I knew for sure: This painting had to be painted over. After a while, I primed the canvas in a dark blue, and it felt…
absolutely right. As I was mixing the paints, I already felt this slight tingling sensation, and that's how Melting Galaxy came about.
