About this artwork

This graduated, gestural color field from Jaap's Love Letter's series embraces the perfection of imperfection. Interlocking loops of raised brushwork cascade down the canvas, ultimately converging into a snowy field of white. Across the central section, fragments of words are worked in gold leaf. Colors include shell pinks and dove greys. The word LOVE appears often in this series. Here in Fragment, Jaap deconstructs the cursive letters into curvilinear… mark making - creating a playful, thoughtfully observed celebration of connection.

Anna Jaap has exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States - opening over 40 solo shows in the course of her career. Jaap’s materials and methods are diverse as she incorporates acrylic, pastel, charcoal, and transfer techniques into abstract compositions. Her works are greatly varied: sometimes luminously ethereal and gestural, sometimes multilayered and pulsing with raw emotion. Jaap's works are energetic and display a balance of darkness and light, chaos and order.
