About this artwork
This work addresses the question of corporeality, which has always interested me, but also philosophically considers the problem of dualisms, and the agency of non-human entities. What is important to me is the reference to a concrete plant and its belonging to the real world. The painting presents a fragment of the plant - development of the vine, reinforced by highlighting the human characteristics that I recognized in the plant at this stage of… its development.
This series was born from my interest in the body and organic matter, but also from a reflection on the border, on everything that is "in between." I combine elements that seem to be opposites and therefore whose borders cannot be clearly defined. I pose the problem of the impossibility of defining a fixed border between the human and the non-human. Then there are questions about hybridity, dualisms, corporality... but also about the environment.
Anna Sieradzka, visual artist, born in 1976 in Poland, lives and works in France. Graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, doctor in Intermedia (Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow) and in philosophy (University of Warsaw – thesis on the theory of the contemporary image). Her practice, informed by philosophical reflection, explores the relationship between matter, time, and process, questioning the boundaries between the human and the non-human. Materiality and corporeality are central to her work, conceived as essential components of existence. She combines various mediums—drawing, painting, video, photography, installation—and organic materials (hair, milk) that allow her to question definitions and reveal forms in perpetual evolution. Surfaces, cracks, spirals, folds—these are all structures that fascinate her, both in the human body and in the natural world.
