Deon has created many abstracts as the inspiration strikes her to communicate in abstract form and color. She tends towards forms that move toward beauty, with geometric shapes and sometimes incorporates free style circles, drips, swirls and more.
There is quite a deal of gestural emphasis in paint that contrasts with the more structured forms. Her abstracts have a monumental quality as the art is bold with color, balanced and big. Heatwave is… a work of art that has, as Deon says, "oil paint roving around the canvas creating texture". The work is vivid, the paint feels alive. It's a monumental work of Art in every way, the handling of paint, the brilliant color, the restraint in form, and in beauty. It's a large canvas and Deon always creates her work by visualizing what it would look like on an Art Museum wall. The artist envisions herself swinging around a corner in a museum gallery to be suddenly confronted with the vision of her canvas and what a beauty it is.
