About this artwork
The title "Departure" refers to a parable by Franz Kafka—a writer who has always inspired vivid imagery in me. The parable is about setting out on a journey to an unknown destination. The first-person narrator presents a modern type of person who finds their existence unsatisfying and wants to change it, without being able to define what that new change should be.
Stories like these move me. The idea of what the protagonist might encounter on his… journey sparks a visual concept.

Anne Hefer works as a painter and draftswoman, using bold colors and impulsive work on canvas in her artistic practice, drawing strong inspiration from nature and memories. Her technique is characterized by the experimental use of palette knives and broad brushes; forms emerge intuitively, usually as abstract landscapes or faces, formed through spontaneous interventions and random processes. Her works reflect a deep emotional tension—between longing, transience, and the dreamlike, transforming reality into vision and fiction.
