About this artwork
The Gatineau River is a former logging river, running deep and wide through the Gatineau hills north of Ottawa. This painting focuses on its music. It uses encaustic beeswax and pigment with copper and teal tones, and layers of colour to convey the mystery and majesty of the place. Encaustic and oil is an ancient and endurable medium that is making a comeback in North America and Europe.

« I am fascinated with change and metamorphosis. »
Anne Wright is an artist based in Canada whose paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally. Through her art, she investigates the invisible behind what is visible, the waxing and waning, as well as the collision and confusion that underlie what is apparent. Wright's lyrically expressive compositions are created with organic impressions and textures, with subtle gradations of analogous color.
