The cities and the time.
This new series of etchings is a continuation of my previous series "the invisible cities", inspired by the novel by Italo Calvino.
Both series are not about cities in themselves but on an underlying theme.
In the first series it is the thinking and ways of life of the people who form a city.
In this case it is about change and the time that elapses.
In these etchings, different times can be seen in one image: past, present… and future.
To create this image I use multiple etching plates that I print over each other. I made a number of plates specially for this, but I also use plates from previous series.
This creates very complex compositions. In these etchings you can look through the cities and buildings, giving you the impression that the different times coincide.

Annemarie Petri is an award-winning Dutch painter, printmaker, and sculptor whose works have been extensively exhibited nationally, as well as in Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, and China. Her sources of inspiration are diverse and include 17th century engravings in the spirit of Piranesi, the natural sciences, literature, and, predominantly, the romantic desire to create an imaginary world of her own. Petri believes that art is predominantly about life and death, rising above the individual.
