« I relate to fractal geometry and functional mathematics to express observed and experiential reality. »
Anni Kumari is an exciting multi-disciplinary artist from India whose works have featured in prizes, exhibitions, publications and collections across the country. Basing her practice around mathematical ideas and concepts, she composes paintings that explore interrelationships and interactivities between geographies, materials and bodies in the context of perception, visibility, memory, speculation, estimation and chance occurrence. Influenced by Tamil Nadu Kolam - an Indian floor drawing tradition, she weaves dots, lines and fractal geometry into a binary of black and white, resulting in an overall artistic aesthetic that appears calculated, sleek and fascinating.
