About this artwork
This is a contemporary wildlife painting of a White Rhino. The artist strives to create awareness to the fact that this animal is on the endangered list due poaching for the illegal trade of the rhino horn. The painting is designed to attract attention to the Rhino's horn thus symbolising the blood money and and slaughter that goes into this illegal and brutal trade. Painted entirely in acrylic, gesso and marble dust using palette knives and scraping…
tools.

« I am inspired by beauty and the positive stories behind people's lives. My portraits strive to express the emotions behind people's eyes rather than creating a realistic rendering of the person. »
Anthony de Klerk is inspired by the people that he meets and interacts with, particularly African youths who have the ability to rise above challenging circumstances and conditions. The award-winning South African painter's first love was wildlife art, which he now finds himself returning to. In his creative process, De Klerk uses acrylic paints and gesso with palette knives and various scraping tools. In his larger portraits and nudes, he works with oils in a more traditional manner.
