About this artwork
Painted from life in the outdoors, this piece is reminiscent of the works of the French impressionists like Monet, Degas and Pissaro. The artist creates a joyful play of dappled light and natural colour.
The model is engrossed in her book and clearly enjoying the freedom of being naked in the sunshine.

« I am inspired by beauty and the positive stories behind people's lives. My portraits strive to express the emotions behind people's eyes rather than creating a realistic rendering of the person. »
Anthony de Klerk is inspired by the people that he meets and interacts with, particularly African youths who have the ability to rise above challenging circumstances and conditions. The award-winning South African painter's first love was wildlife art, which he now finds himself returning to. In his creative process, De Klerk uses acrylic paints and gesso with palette knives and various scraping tools. In his larger portraits and nudes, he works with oils in a more traditional manner.
