About this artwork
The second panel of a triptych comes from the artist's nocturnal walks in the Marais, where he lived for 5 years. He tried to capture the sensuality of this atmosphere and some moments of this theater which is played on the terraces of the cafes, lit by the electric light and transformed into a stage of spectacle. These places are crossroads of life, where some people take the time to stop to share experiences, perhaps lessons of life.
In the… daily struggle of existence, the Night Marsh appeared to him as a space where time is suspended, which is comfortable, and a closed place which can also seem to close on itself like a trap, crossed by a flow of heterogeneous characters, used or passing, happy or depressed, sociable or solitary. Some have an incongruous or mysterious presence, their entry surprises us and challenges us
