About this artwork
«He raised his mouth from the proud meal / that sinner, polishing it to the hair / of the head that he
had a broken back", canto XXXIII of the Inferno: intent on sinking his teeth into the head of the bishop of Pisa Ruggieri degli Ubaldini, in the "proud meal" of revenge which he will immediately resume
having narrated his story to Dante: «When he had said this, with twisted eyes / he took up the miserable skull with his teeth, / which were strong… against the bone, like a dog» (vv. 76- 78).
Ugolino della Gherardesca (Pisa, circa 1210 – Pisa, 1289) was an Italian Ghibelline politician and soldier who sided with the Guelphs and naval commander of the 13th century. He was arrested and convicted of treason in 1288, and was in fact placed by Dante in the Antenora, where traitors to the homeland are punished. Image which, still in its sketch state, found its place in the artwork of the album of the same name by the iconic Alexandrian darkvawe formation "Viridanse" (2014).
made on 380 gr canvas.

Antonio De Nardis
Italy
« Everything is worthy of attention, everything is "sacred", like the breath, the silence, but also the cries of human pain. »
Antonio De Nardis is a painter and draftsman based in Italy whose works have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally. He describes the only central theme marked in his works as being the "reality of things", filtered and shaped by the truth, as well as the reality of the countless states of consciousness and sensations. In essence, De Nardis' bold compositions portray reality as it does not appear.
