About this artwork
This is the 1st of three paintings (a triptych) I worked on while reading about the "hard" problem of consciousness by David Chalmers. This first painting is an allegory of will, and is meant to depict how our consciousness is linked to the information in our DNA, and how we are called to resolve the problems in our genealogical tree throughout our lifetime (represented by the tree). The male character in the painting previously consumed the apple…
of knowledge which fell from the tree. With this newfound knowledge, he recoignizes the emotions emitted by the character to the right, Hedone, in the 2nd tryptic painting. The dog represents our connections to those around us, and the crows are further described in the 3rd tryptic painting.
