About this artwork
In this painting I wanted to represent a point of view of the Port of Genoa where on different levels starting from the bottom you can see a pier (made with brown satin fabric), the shipyard with boats on the docks, on the left the Italian flag (made with red and green satin), a yellow building protagonist in the center of the canvas and in the background in the distance the refineries with the cranes of the commercial shipyard. All veiled by a blue/copper… green light. In the center and in the foreground you can see a seagull flying over the industrial city.
The contrast between the chaos of an industrial environment and the harmony of nature where the latter dominates the work of man.
Antonio Ortolani, trained at NABA in Milan, expresses himself through oil painting with symbolist and surrealist influences. He develops an intriguing contrast between industrial architectural realism and nature, adding ancient fabrics and beeswax for a unique texture. With strong reference to poetic and philosophical texts, his works evoke the emotions of an almost forgotten era, exploring the duality between humility and pride.
