About this artwork
This painting has been inspired by the artist’s experience from her to visit to Varanasi, at the Pashupatinath temple where this little girl’s impish smile caught her attention. She relived her experience while creating this painting incorporating various techniques like bold spatula strokes for the blue- black stone sculpture of the Nandi bull - that is revered in India as Lord Shiva’s protector and gatekeeper, the re-imagined textured yellow wall… behind, bearing witness to the ravages of time of one of the oldest cities in the world, the delicate petals and leaves as prayer offerings and last but not the least, the innocence captured in the eyes of the little girl.
« Art transforms the mundane to the extraordinary. »
