About this artwork
This artwork is part of a series Anushka created in 2020, titled, "Black Square Evolution".
Inspired by the feeling of unity and openness she experienced as the Black Square movement, which is a part of the Black Consciousness movement, spread across the internet in the second half of 2020, she created 12 artworks to embody these feelings.
Anushka felt that she could more deeply understand, appreciate and recognize the Black people with whom… she has shared, and still shares, her life. It felt to her like a new kind of awakening wisdom could come to the forefront of their conversations.
The gold represents the elegance and wisdom that she has felt she received from the change in collective consciousness. It has been twisted and woven to represent its ever-evolving nature as well as its inherent changing and complex beauty.
