When the ‘Black Square’ took over social media 2 years ago, it got Anushka feeling…
She felt like the world was finally acknowledging blackness in humanity. Which is amazing. But she noticed that Blackness was often being associated with struggle, oppression, suffering, pain and negligence.
And in her experience of Blackness this was so far from what she had experienced.
Blackness is royal, it’s regal, it’s ancient wisdom. It’s rich! It’s wealthy… in ideas, culture, knowledge, in spiritual understanding, in traditions, in excellence and so much more.
So yes, acknowledge other peoples blackness. But see it for the fullness and royalty that it really is.
In all of the works, the Black Square is woven with gold, silver, rose gold and copper and in some cases real gold. The weaving is twisted, textured and evolving.
