About this artwork
Kempken lost one of her closet childhood friends. The grief and confusion was overwhelming and the only way though was to create.
While working with the artwork she also wrote a poem to clarify her experience.
Farewell...
to all the souls I’ll never see again.
The transition has been made.
The gateway has been crossed.
To the other side.
I will stay and keep our sweet memories,
the stories we created together.
And soon I will join you too.…
For life is short and to be lived,
to be shared,
to love.
And you will be there,
just a little beyond reach from where I am now.
Guiding and supporting me always,
I feel you sometimes.
I know you’re there.
For all of us still here.
