About this artwork
In this work, I infused the energy of pop culture with the classic technique of acrylic and collage. My intention was to capture the duality of war and peace through the contemplative gaze of Victor Hugo. 22, 1885 in Paris. In 1841, he was elected to the French Academy. He is also known for being a very committed writer (against the death penalty for example) and for having made major political speeches. In 1848, he became deputy for Paris. In December 1851, he opposed the dictatorship of Napoleon III and had to live in exile in the Channel Islands until the end of the Second Empire in September 1870. He died at the age of 83 and was buried in Pantheon (Paris)

Arly Auclair is an award-winning visual artist, who has exhibited her works nationally, as well as in Spain, Mexico, Monaco, Germany, and Canada. Her compositions confront the realities of the world. Auclair satiates her curiosity through the exploration of varying themes which include the human form, urban and industrial heritage, memento mori, and societal questions. Her narrative and free figurative pieces are created using acrylics, oils, felt, and collage on cardboard, paper, linen, or canvas.
