About this artwork
The Kama-sutra is an ancient Hindu text that deals with human sexual behavior; which stands out for the body postures to be performed in its practice.
Etymology: 'aphorisms about sexuality': kāma is 'sexual pleasure' and sūtra, 'thread, short phrase'.
Considered as the basic work on love in Sanskrit literature, it was written by Vatsiaiana. The full title is Vātsyāyana kāma sūtra ('The aphorisms on sexuality, from Vatsiaiana'). Chronologically,… the author is placed in the Gupta period (which ran from 240 to 550 AD).
The Kama sutra is made up of 36 chapters dealing with 7 different topics, each of which was written by an expert in the field. The themes are:
"Introduction" (4 chapters): about sex in general, its place in a man's life, and a classification of women.
"On the sexual act"
« I wanted to be a pilot, but I ended up painting. Now I fly higher. »
Arturo Prins is an exciting Spanish artist whose style comes from a sensibility of play, discipline, freedom and rebellion, redoubled in a constant reinvention of himself. Thematically, Prins looks to delve into metaphysics, symbolism, esoteric cosmogony, while mixing in humor to soften the transcendent themes in his work. He also describes his work as being "nostalgic for the future, sometimes with a nod to the eclectic spiritualism between East and West."
