This is the elevation of the Cenotaph of Newton, possibly Boullée's most emblematic project. The building is basically a large sphere that represents both the earth and Newton's discoveries. It is accessed through the base and, despite its size, it can only be occupied internally in a small area of this base. Its surface is cleverly perforated so that during the day the rays of light enter inside it and it looks like the nocturnal image of the celestial… vault. At night, a large focus of artificial light in its center reproduces the daytime image. Outwardly only half of the sphere can be seen, supported by two cylinders. Around this sphere Boullée places rows of trees, following its perimeter. This image recalls the Roman tradition in the great mausoleums of Augustus and Hadrian, although they are different types of building, since a mausoleum is a grave and a cenotaph is a funerary monument dedicated to the memory of some character.
« I wanted to be a pilot, but I ended up painting. Now I fly higher. »
Arturo Prins is an exciting Spanish artist whose style comes from a sensibility of play, discipline, freedom and rebellion, redoubled in a constant reinvention of himself. Thematically, Prins looks to delve into metaphysics, symbolism, esoteric cosmogony, while mixing in humor to soften the transcendent themes in his work. He also describes his work as being "nostalgic for the future, sometimes with a nod to the eclectic spiritualism between East and West."
