About this artwork
I made this series of drawings in India two years ago. I was touring it from Bombay to the south and from there to the Himalayas. I decided to make a series of drawings not just of his landscapes but of his spirituality, which translates into the liveliness of its colors and its symbolism. The dreams I had there are written behind each paper. Many of them are very dark, violent and pornographic. When you travel with the desire to purge, the pus inside… you floats. There, living in monasteries, I had very black nightmares. I only had a dream that was a true vision, wonderful and out of this world. To each I dedicate some Dhammapada sutras.
“Through many lives I have erred in samsara (cycle of births and deaths) looking for, but not finding, the builder of the house. Total suffering in this coming back and being born again. Oh, builder of the house! Now I have perceived you. You will not build this house again.
« I wanted to be a pilot, but I ended up painting. Now I fly higher. »
Arturo Prins is an exciting Spanish artist whose style comes from a sensibility of play, discipline, freedom and rebellion, redoubled in a constant reinvention of himself. Thematically, Prins looks to delve into metaphysics, symbolism, esoteric cosmogony, while mixing in humor to soften the transcendent themes in his work. He also describes his work as being "nostalgic for the future, sometimes with a nod to the eclectic spiritualism between East and West."
