About this artwork
In this work, I placed a circular form at the center to embody samsara—the eternal cycle of the forest—while the fourfold symmetry expresses my vision of cosmic order and continuity.
For me, the geometric patterns visualize layers of prayer and memory embedded in the earth, portraying the forest itself as a living web of life.
The “droplets” scattered across the composition are not tears of sorrow, but the water of life descending from the cosmos,… nourishing the forest and generating new cycles.
Through this piece, I wanted to present these droplets as symbols of life—moments when unseen forces take form and connect the cosmos with the earth.
Medium: Black natural silk thread, red, gold and silver threads, gold and silver leaf, sumi ink, gold and silver pigment, organic cotton, mounted on wooden panel

Asami Goto（五島アサミ） is a contemporary artist working along two axes: Nihonga (traditional Japanese painting) and her original technique of Geometric Embroidery + Sumi Ink Art.
Her Nihonga works are informed by the spiritual and aesthetic sensibilities of classical Japanese art, particularly Buddhist visual culture, capturing invisible atmospheres and subtle presences.
Her textile-based works use organic cotton, natural silk threads, sumi ink, and gold and silver leaf to merge geometric order with the organic rhythms of nature, visualizing relationships between natural structures and living systems.
Goto has exhibited in France, the United States, Spain, Japan, and other countries internationally. In 2023, she received an Excellence Award at an exhibition held at The National Art Center, Tokyo.
She is a Member of the Japan Artists Association (JAA) and a Professional Member of the International Association of Art (IAA).
