About this artwork
The cat is a freedom-loving, playful and cuddly animal. Why she stands for the Katzenjammer, i.e. world pain, godmother is not entirely understandable. She is more suitable as a role model for joie de vivre. The picture shows a woman whose face is partially covered by a cat.

Esslinger was at the beginning of her artistic career with textile, before she turned to painting. Her many travels and residency stays worldwide influence the cultural and sociopolitical issues that Esslinger deals with in her art. She also works with cardboard collages that critically question consumption.
