Nature is a place of longing, but at the same time there is something uncanny, incalculable and threatening about it, which the name of the mountain expresses. The figure in the picture stands on a rock and bends forward to look into the abyss. Man's arrogance to be able to dominate nature is increasingly proving to be a fatal error

Esslinger was at the beginning of her artistic career with textile, before she turned to painting. Her many travels and residency stays worldwide influence the cultural and sociopolitical issues that Esslinger deals with in her art. She also works with cardboard collages that critically question consumption.
