About this artwork
In the US people are being photographed when the police takes them in. Whether someone is guilty or not, these pictures stay in the files... and now a days circulate on the internet, for everyone to be seen. Oudheusden painted a series of portraits (MugShots) based on these police photographs. She changes their features and makes their faces into art.

« I observe people and dogs. Life seems pretty difficult for many, so I focus on daily life to give hope, insight, and the feeling that there are people who care. »
Had she not become a painter, Astrid Oudheusden would have been a psychologist, as human interaction and human beings fascinate her to no end. The award-winning painter, who resides in the Netherlands, feels that there is no limit to what can be accomplished on canvas or paper. Oudheusden employs acrylics, gouache, watercolors, markers, charcoal, collage, and pencils - whatever material that allows her to make fluid movements when creating.
